
1870年陶瓷艺术教育正式出现在芬兰教育体系中,同一时期芬兰当局还引进了新兴的陶瓷产业。从此,斯堪的纳维亚的工艺和早期现代主义思想开始萌芽,为现代设计的兴起埋下伏笔。
Ceramic art education formally appeared in the Finnish education system in 1870. At the same time, the Finnish authorities also introduced a new ceramic industry. Since then, Scandinavian craftsmanship and early modernism began to sprout, laying the groundwork for the rise of modern design.
二战结束后,新的和平时代到来。大工业生产的方向开始转变,市场的供需刺激着设计领域的变革。战后的重建需求也为设计市场提供了大量的机会。丰富的商品出口需求使当时的艺术家和设计师有着足够的发挥空间。After the end of World War II, a new era came. The mode of large-scale industrial production has been changed, and the supply and demand of the market have stimulated changes in the design field. The reconstruction after the war also provided plenty of opportunities for the design field. The abundant export orders at that time gave artists and designers enough room to play. 
在陶瓷和玻璃行业,大批的设计师和艺术家在展销会中被发掘。芬兰设计在国际展览中开始崭露头角。直至今日,芬兰设计在国际设计领域仍处于领先的水平。In the ceramics and glass industry, a large number of designers and artists were discovered in the fair. Finnish design has made its mark in international exhibitions. Until today, Finnish design is still at a leading level in the international design field.

The title of this week’s lecture is “Interaction of Art and Design,Changes in professions and education”. The lecture will be held on Wednesday 20:00(BST), May 26, at Taoxichuan International Education Program —— Master Online Lecture.讲座中,Tapio 会分享他50年从业经历中观察到的设计和教育领域转变,以及任职期间对芬兰设计领域和教育行业变化的见解。他还将介绍他参与过的艺术与设计项目的案例,并介绍他观察生活,研究材料和秉持原创设计的方法。In the lecture, Tapio will share his 50 years of experience in the field of design and education, as well as his insights into the changes in the Finnish design field and education industry during his tenure. He will also introduce the cases of art and design projects he has participated in, and share his ways of observing life, studying the materials, and creating original design.

芬兰,一个领土三分之一在北极圈以内的国家,气候条件比较恶劣,拥有着漫长且寒冷的寒冬。芬兰人自古对自然有着尊崇和敬畏之心。万物皆有灵是他们的信仰,他们的认为人与自然是互通的。对自然环境的依恋是芬兰人的常态,这在他们的设计中也得到显著的体现。Finland, one-third of its territory is located within the Arctic Circle, and the climatic conditions are relatively harsh, with a long and cold winter. Finns have admired and awed nature since ancient times. It is their belief that everything is anim, and they believe that man and nature are interlinked. Attachment to nature is the norm for Finns, and this is also prominently reflected in their designs.Tapio Yli-Viikari (b.1948),芬兰阿尔托大学陶瓷艺术荣誉教授,联合国教科文组织陶艺委员学会(IAC)。曾任芬兰阿拉比亚陶瓷工坊艺术与设计部门部长。Tapio 作为芬兰国宝级的设计师和艺术家,有着丰富的国际竞赛的评审经历,其中包括日本美浓国际陶艺竞赛、韩国利川世界陶艺双年展、波兰ICEP青年设计竞赛、欧洲陶艺双年展芬兰代表、英国皇家艺术学院校外评审。并曾在多国有着客座讲座的分享。Tapio Yli-Viikari (b.1948), Professor Emeritus in Ceramic Art, Aalto University, Finland. He is a member of the UNESCO Institute of Ceramics (IAC). He served as the Minister of the Art and Design Department of the Finnish Arabia Pottery Workshop. As a national treasure-level designer and artist of Finland, Tapio has a stack of experience in judging international competitions, including Japan's Mino International Ceramics Competition, South Korea's Icheon World Ceramics Biennale, Polish ICEP Youth Design Competition, and European Ceramics Biennale Finland Representative, The Royal College of Art external review. He has been holding guest lectures in many countries.

作为陶瓷教育行业的从业者,又身兼着艺术家和工业设计师。多重的身份让 Tapio 对于陶瓷艺术和设计有着多方面的认知。他认为,艺术创作和产品设计这两个领域所需要拥有的技能、方法和观察角度是截然不同的。角色之间的切换转变总是具有挑战的。教育从业者的身份,使 Tapio 在面对跨界矛盾中更加从容,并渐渐形成了面对(艺术和设计)两个领域不同的从事方法。As a practitioner in the field of ceramic education, he is also an artist and industrial designer. Multiple identities give Tapio a multi-aspect understanding of ceramic art and design. He believes that the two areas of expertise, Art and Design, require very different skills, strategies and ways of seeing. It is constantly challenging to move from one role to the other. The identity of an education practitioner makes Tapio more calm in the face of cross-border conflicts. And gradually formed a different method to the two fields (art and design).

二战后,芬兰的设计主要受现代设计理念影响较深,其中瑞典工业设计协会所倡导的“为美好生活而设计”设计理念以及包豪斯的现代主义设计的美学主张对芬兰生活陶瓷设计风格的形成起到了重要的影响。但是在功能性先行的包豪斯主义的基础上,芬兰的设计更具有一份人情味。After World War II, Finnish design was mainly influenced by modernism. The concept of "design for a better life" advocated by the Swedish Industrial Design Association and the aesthetic proposition of Bauhaus design had an important influence on the formation of the Finnish living ceramic design style. However, based on the Bauhaus style that emphasizes functionality, Finnish design is more humanistic.迄今为止,Tapio 从事艺术和设计类工作已有50年的经验。在他从业的这些年间,整个陶瓷艺术领域已经发生了迭代性的改变,芬兰阿尔托大学陶瓷教育艺术与设计的内容也迎来了不同的挑战。So far, Tapio has 50 years of experience in art and design. 近些年来,后现代艺术主义对于艺术发展的重新评估,形成了一种新视觉审美的现象“艺术化”,当非艺术转变为艺术,当艺术和设计范式改变时,就会拓展新的设计领域。信息社会将会重塑艺术和设计领域的教育。Recently postmodern re-evaluation of artistic ambitions already leads to a new aesthetic phenomenon “artfication” when non-art will turn into art. New areas of design are invented when the paradigm of art and design has been changed. Information society will reshape education of art and design.

中国自古以来就是“瓷”的国度。Tapio 有着丰富旅华的经历,他也曾多次来到景德镇进行驻地创作和调研,他发现景德镇陶瓷行业的发展模式和芬兰有着很大的区别。这里的千年的制瓷历史和极具潜力的发展空间,也为他的教育和创作方向带来了很多新的思路。China has been a country of "porcelain" since ancient times. Tapio has wealth of travel experiences in China. He has also come to Jingdezhen many times for residency creation and research. He found that the development model of Jingdezhen's ceramic industry is very different from Finland. There is a thousand-year history of porcelain making and great potential for development, which also brings many new ideas to his education and creation.

Tapio 对于陶艺方向的创作主要思路是想把陶瓷艺术和设计紧密结合在一起。对陶艺材料和成型工艺如青花、拉坯成型方式通过现代的设计思维进行探索,具体展现到现代的社会环境中。不是单纯的当作艺术品,而是设计思维的探讨。The main method of Tapio ceramic art creation is to closely integrate ceramic art and design. “所谓启发性对于艺术家来说,其实并不是决定性条件,艺术家的作品并不应该依赖于此,艺术家的作品离不开的是辛勤的劳作。” Tapio如是说道。"I don't believe art inspiration is an essential prerequisite for the artist. The truly great work (design) needs hard work."

艺术创作离不开实践,它不会凭空而来,也不是一朝一夕的事。Tapio 代表着芬兰设计的精神,诠释艺术和设计领域的发展,需要保持着好奇和批判的双眼,也需要长期的积累与全身心地投入。Art creation is inseparable from practice, it does not come out of thin air, nor does it happen overnight. Tapio represents the spirit of Finnish design and interprets the development of art and design. It requires to keep curiosity and critical thinking, as well as long-term accumulation and dedication.
