陶溪川·景德镇国际工作室线上讲座本期邀请到陶艺学术专家、教授，Chase Gamblin。于2021年5月19日晚上8点，在陶溪川国际教育—国际云讲座平台带来主题为《堆叠情绪》（Stacked and Slipped ）的讲座。

Taoxichuan·Jingdezhen International Studio is very pleased to invite the Academic Specialist/ Professor Ceramic Artist, Chase Gamblin. The titled of this week's lecture is " Stacked and Slipped ". The lecture will be held on Wednesday, May 19, at Taoxichuan International Education Program -- Master Online Lecture.

讲座过程中，Chase还将介绍他为陶溪川线上平台制作的线上课程“堆叠成器”，Chase将介绍使用化妆土的技法以及其配制比例，强调作品展示中光影的重要性，并分享他的创作过程。

During the lecture, Chase will introduce the online lessons that he filmed for Taoxichuan online platform "Stacked and Slipped", during the lessons Chase Gamblin will explain  proportion and heavy slip application，light plays a significant role on the surface of  vessels; his creative process and course.

关于嘉宾

Chase Gamblin

陶艺学术专家、教授

Chase Gamblin，任教于印第安纳大学布卢明顿校区，是学校专业学者，陶艺专业教授。在伊利诺伊州长大的他，从小有着丰富的旅居经历，曾旅居中国、北达科他州、印第安纳州、北卡罗来纳州、马萨诸塞州、田纳西州等地。成长过程中，当地文化氛围的多样性，使他在创作中注入了地方人文特色，同时又伴随着国际性。

Chase Gamblin，American. grew up in Metropolis Il. Received his BFA at Tennessee Tech University and his MFA from Texas Tech University. Since then he has completed residencies in China, North Dakota, Indiana, North Carolina, Massachusetts, Tennessee and shown his work nationally and internationally. 

Chase有着田纳西科技大学（Tennessee Tech University）艺术学士学位和得克萨斯理工大学（Texas Tech University）硕士学位。

Gamblin has taught at Texas Tech University, University of North Dakota, Cumberland University, and the Bloomington Clay Studio. Since 2015 he has been a faculty member as the Academic Specialist and Ceramic Area Coordinator for Indiana University in Bloomington, IN.

厚重的化妆土，写意的涂抹感，这些都是Chase在作品中频繁使用的装饰方式。化妆土层层叠加呈现出流动的线条与不羁的特质，弱化了作品中的棱角。在创作中，他时刻保持着对作品造型、体量、轮廓、肌理和空间感的考量。他想让每一位观者都发现每一件作品中所蕴含的独特性。

Chase vessels are composed with proportion and heavy slip application in mind. The slip gives a sense of subtle movement and whimsy to the work, softening the hard edges. While working he is constantly considering form, volume, contour, texture, and space. He intends the viewer to see each piece as a personified individual. 

在近期的创作中，Chase常常使用简明的色彩搭配。例如只用黑、白搭配色彩艳丽的化妆土。再用金色来凸显局部的亮点，抓住观者的视觉焦点。

In Chase recent iteration of work . Utilizing a minimal color pallet of whites or blacks with pops of color from the slip application. He highlight focal points using gold to frame areas importance. 

Chase的作品重点一直围绕着光影与造型。光线在釉面，金属光面和哑光面的之间质感的相互叠加交错，形成丰富的视觉观感。通过长期的尝试，Chase不断完善这些质感之间的组合。

In the whole work，he focuses on light and form .Light plays a significant role on the surface of his vessels; it provides a contrast between the glazed, lustered, and matte areas.

“我从小被灌输尊重手工劳动的成果，并学习通过自己的双手来创造价值。无论是在玩音乐，在车库里捣鼓，还是在工作室里创作，我都能在这些过程中找到自我价值。每当我进行一次新的创作，我都会更明确自己的创作目的。” Chase如是说道。

"At a young age, I learned to value working and creating with my hands. Whether it is playing music, wrenching in the garage, or building in the studio, I find nourishment. As I work on a new piece, I ask myself ‘Why’?” Chase said.

Chase has yet to culminate this inquiry, he continues to make and find himself in a seemingly never-ending cycle of making and questioning.
Chase从未停止叩问，在看似永无尽头的创作和询问中，是对自我永不停息的追寻。
